WEATHER
CONDITIONS
Weather conditions: |
| Spring was late and exceptionally cold, phenological events were delayed 10 days at least. Single snowpatches remained on the seaside flats (laidas) till July, while normally they become completely snowfree in early May. The weather was windy and cold during whole period of wader reproduction, with periodic storms, but without snowfalls.

Breeding conditions:
Arctic Fox numbers slightly increased judging by 2 records, against complete absence in previous seasons. Rough-legged Buzzards and large gulls were nesting successfully. Numbers of Arctic Skua - principal wader predator, were high. Snowy Owls were not recorded. Waders did not show an apparent deviation from a normal course of reproduction which delay, if present, was not appreciable. However, clutch and brood loss was higher than in other years. Most of the common species had usial nesting numbers, except for the Ruff, that was rare breeder, and flocks of which were not recorded in the post-nesting period. Little Stints did not nest (only one bird met). Three pairs of Terek Sandpipers were registered which may indicate breeding.
